Sounds—The Foundation of Phonics
Learning consonant sounds is the first essential task on the
road to reading. Of the 44 sounds that the letters of our
alphabet make, 25 are consonant sounds. Not only are consonant
sounds the most prevalent sounds, but are also the least complicated
sounds to master. In the 36 lessons in this unit, children
will learn:
- The
beginning, middle, and final sounds made by the letters
m, t, s, b, r, c, f, d, n, g, k, w, h, l, v, j, p, q, y,
and z
- The
final sound of x
- The
hard and soft sounds of the letters c and g
As children progress thought these units they will also
be expanding their vocabulary, developing cognitive skills,
and refining their listening skills. All games and activities
are designed to be entertaining and well as stimulating.
