Consonant Sounds—The Foundation of Phonics
Learning consonant sounds is the first essential task on the road to reading. Of the 44 sounds that the letters of our alphabet make, 25 are consonant sounds. Not only are consonant sounds the most prevalent sounds, but are also the least complicated sounds to master. In the 36 lessons in this unit, children will learn:

  • The beginning, middle, and final sounds made by the letters m, t, s, b, r, c, f, d, n, g, k, w, h, l, v, j, p, q, y, and z
  • The final sound of x
  • The hard and soft sounds of the letters c and g
    As children progress thought these units they will also be expanding their vocabulary, developing cognitive skills, and refining their listening skills. All games and activities are designed to be entertaining and well as stimulating.
